THE PROJECT
Debbie Weisz, founder and principal of Elmhurst-based Debora Lyn Interior Design, is passionate about crafting spaces that inspire awe—and that’s exactly what she did when designing this elegant residence at a downtown skyscraper just north of the Chicago River.

A second home for a family in the steel industry, the space serves as a retreat for overnight stays when work needs to be attended to in the city, as well as a gathering place to spend time with and entertain family and friends on the weekends. “They wanted an elevated look they can be proud to show off and enjoy,” Weisz says.

THE PLAN
“The process for this project was quite simple,” says Weisz. “They don’t live here full time, which made it easy to do the work and not bother them.” After a handful of initial meetings with the clients, the vision was set, and it was time for Weisz and her team to get to work.

THE DETAILS
A neutral color palette anchors the design of the home and is punctuated with bright pops of color throughout. “While keeping the sophistication in the condo, we were able to be playful with brighter colors in the art and accessories,” Weisz adds. “This allows the colors to pop and keep the elegance and edge to each space.”

In the primary bedroom, eye-catching handcarved mirror panels covered with golden slashes by John-Richard pair with a chic white Interlude bed finished with dark-hued bedding and an edgy tiger print pillow. The living room also offers visual flair as an inviting Tomlinson sectional and gold-accented cocktail table sit atop a cream and golden abstract striped rug sourced from The Rug Company.
In the primary bedroom, John-Richard’s handcarved, heavily stylized Revne pattern finished in an exotic gold stretches across four individual panels.
THE OUTCOME
Because this project began at the start of the pandemic, both shipping delays and damaged items presented Weisz’s team with challenges through the process. Some pieces needed to be reselected to avoid further delays, but the team was able to navigate the situation in a timely manner and make use of alternative solutions. And the finished product shows no sign of any hiccups. “Our client was patient,” Weisz concludes. “They knew the design was worth waiting for.”
