Fashion star Dries Van Noten debuts his premiere beauty collection bursting with artful juxtapositions that combine to create something sublime.

“I often work with impossible combinations,” says Antwerp-based fashion designer Dries Van Noten. Couture clashing with streetwear, prints playing against each other—Dries Van Noten is a master of point and counterpoint. The fashion star recently debuted Dries Van Noten Beauty, a fragrance and makeup line that offers a continuation of his eclectic juxtapositions. “It is really a dream project,” he says.

“It is such a success for me that we can show in the bottle the impossible combination of the perfume,” says Van Noten, who worked with a variety of renowned perfumers to craft the impressive collection of 10 gender-fluid perfumes. “It was like creative ping-pong,” he says of the collaborative process.

The range of lipsticks in sheer, satin and matte finishes are available in refillable bullets that are truly works of art. “For the makeup, we first had to get the textures right,” Van Noten says. “It was really important to bring something new to the table and push boundaries.”

The collection—which also includes collectable accessories (compact mirrors, combs, pochettes), creams and scented soaps—is as robust as one would expect from the prolific designer. “I always make really big collections,” Van Noten says. “I don’t create for one type of man or woman.”
