In the world of fashion, it happens all too often: A new creative takes the wheel at a major label and makes major changes in an effort to put their own stamp on the brand. Not so at Jil Sander, where new creative directors Luke and Lucie Meier have put the label’s heritage front and center, resulting in a collection that feels of the moment but still timeless. It’s a smashing success, says Chicago fashion doyenne and boutique owner Ikram Goldman—and she should know, having been selling the iconic label since its arrival on the Chicago scene decades ago.
“These new designers are really taking the classic message of what Jil Sander is all about— utilitarian but with great quality and workmanship—and making it relevant for today’s fashion,” enthuses Goldman, adding, “I’ve watched the transition and progression of Jil Sander, which is a brand that has stood the test of time, time and time again; the fact that it now has new designers who are not changing the brand’s heritage but weaving in what Jil Sander is about is really important and something to take notice of.”
