At the helm of Courrèges, recently appointed creative director Nicolas Di Felice pays homage to the iconic fashion maison’s legacy—and takes it in a chic new direction.

In the 1960s, Courrèges became a must-wear brand for A-list celebrities like Jackie Kennedy and Catherine Deneuve. Now, thanks to an impressive debut collection by new creative director Nicolas Di Felice (a Belgian talent best known for his stints working under Nicolas Ghesquière at Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton), the label is buzzing again—and Chicago style maven Ikram Goldman is here for it.

“He’s taking an old house that has a very specific look and expanding that look in every way,” notes Goldman. “He is maintaining the essence of what Courrèges is, with its mod, ’60s shapes and short lengths, but he’s also honing in on what people are wearing today. The draping has been incredible; it’s been wonderful to see.” Just as exciting, says Goldman, is the versatility of these garments. “I’ve had teachers buying these pieces to teach in, for the office, or to dress up—it really depends on the dress. It’s not an evening collection; it’s not a day collection; it’s day into evening. That’s why I’m drawn to Courrèges more than ever under his watch.”15 E. Huron St., ikram.com; courreges.com
