Streetwear gets sophisticated in garments by Vaquera
For an upstart fashion brand, getting support from a major maison like Comme des Garçons can be world-changing. That’s exactly what happened to New York label Vaquera, who joined the celebrated Parisian house in 2020 and have built legions of fans worldwide ever since— including Chicago fashion guru Ikram Goldman.
“I love the spirit and the intention of the clothes,” explains Goldman. “They’re very street, but very sophisticated. It might be a denim jacket that’s distressed but has a couture shape to it, or a knit dress that’s street but has a long, drapey feel to it. I feel that with Vaquera, the fact that it’s a guy and a girl working together as a duo really helps in having that feminine touch when you’re doing streetwear.”
How does the boutique owner see her clients wearing these? “It depends on your lifestyle,” she notes. “There are so many elements within the collection that are great everyday, day-into-dinner pieces.”
In short, sums up Goldman, this is a brand that in-the-know fashionistas will want to be wearing this season and beyond.
