Hewn, ranked among the 100 best bakeries in America by Food & Wine, has unveiled its expansive new location. “Our previous space was 2,000 square feet,” says Hewn co-owner Julie Matthei. “It was cramped and it didn’t have air conditioning, making conditions very challenging during the summer months.” The revamped bakery keeps the signature double barn doors and red barn lights of the original, but in an upgraded setting and with triple the space. Behind the counter, crowd favorites remain and are now available via online ordering and contactless pickup. “My favorite bread is the Blonde Country,” Matthei reveals. “We eat that almost every day at our house for toast and sandwiches. “And,” she adds, “nothing beats a good chocolate chip cookie for dessert.” 1733 Central St., Evanston
On the highlight reel for the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center is Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, now extended through January 2021. Named for The New York Times bestselling book Notorious RBG, this is the first museum exhibit to exclusively pay homage to the recently deceased judicial icon, showcasing a robe and jabot from her U.S. Supreme Court wardrobe, home videos with her husband and 3D re-imaginations of key places in her life. 9603 Woods Drive, Skokie

Chicago Botanic Garden’s new Butterflies & Blooms immerses guests in the habitat of hundreds of live butterflies. From the vibrant blue of the Chinese peacock to the stripes of the Mexican sister, the “flying flowers” in this exhibit teach visitors of all ages about the life cycle and diversity of butterflies and moths with the complete metamorphosis from larva to adult on display in the pupa room. 1000 Lake Cook Road, Glencoe
Characterized by its attention to detail, Henry Beguelin’s fall/winter 2020-21 collection—available at Winnetka fashion favorite Frances Heffernan—is filled with lustworthy handmade leather pieces. Among the top picks are the Margherita M bag, an emerald green dream with woven calf leather and handsewn stitching—a natural pairing for prints—and the subdued cognac Cuoio Western bootie, a pointed-toe staple for cooler months. 810 Elm St., Winnetka
