The Elmhurst Art Museum celebrates the life and work of Pablo Picasso in a major exhibition this season.

“We often call Pablo Picasso by just his last name because we think we know him. But his work is easily misunderstood because everyone thinks they know what a Picasso looks like. We hope this exhibit will provide new context and show his work in a new light,” says Richard Townsend, curator of Picasso and the Progressive Proof, the catalogue that complements The Elmhurst Art Museum’s blockbuster exhibit Picasso: Fifty Years Later. As part of “Celebration Picasso 1973-2023,” a global movement showcasing the iconic works of Pablo Picasso 50 years after his death, the museum presents an extensive three-part exhibition that explores more than 20 works and the legacy of the artist, as well as his profound influence on his contemporaries. The exhibition is just as significant for the museum itself as for viewers, shares executive director John McKinnon, “Hosting this show is truly a milestone for the museum and the culmination of efforts by our staff, board and community for just over 25 years. We are proud to participate in both a national tour and global tribute on the 50th anniversary of Pablo Picasso’s death.” Sept. 9-Jan. 7, 150 S. Cottage Hill Ave., Elmhurst
