Two Hands Interiors tranforms a new-construction home in Wheaton into a personality-filled domestic paradise.
From chic stools by Baker Furniture to Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances and cabinetry by Arbor Mills, the kitchen is a light, airy dream space.
THE CLIENT
Ready to build the home of their dreams in Wheaton (complete with a jaw-dropping pool house), the clients had a complete set of architecturals and renderings that they had worked on with architect Maureen McHugh and were starting the bidding process with local builders for an expansive 10,000-square-foot abode.
The soaring family room is anchored by a Crown Major chandelier in polished aluminum from Lightology, sleek swivel chairs by Thayer Coggin, a sofa by Century Furniture and a coffee table by Kravet.
Their next step? Reaching out to Two Hands Interiors (a referral by McHugh) to make the vision complete.
The dining room beckons with custom lighting from Hammerton Studio, chairs by A. Rudin and a table custom designed by Two Hands Interiors and built by Rest and Repine Woodworks.
THE PRIORITY
Notes Two Hands Interiors owner and principal Rachel Alcorn, who managed the project with fellow Two Hands Designers Bryn Wulf and Karen Javier, the aim was clear: “To create a space that remained true to the renderings the clients had worked so long to develop with the architect, while also being creative and flexible in sourcing materials and finishes.”
Hammerton Studio’s Parallel two tier ring chandelier draws the eye in the handsome primary bedroom.
THE CHALLENGE
The sheer size of the home presented its own particular challenges, notes Alcorn.
The capacious primary bath features a chic Kohler tub with waterfall edge.
“The scale of the project meant there were designs and selections due at a dizzying pace,” she explains, “and yet attention to detail was of utmost importance.”
A photograph by Carlos Saura sourced from Boulevard Fine Art adds visual interest to the main stairway.
THE DETAIL
“The mix of woods, metals and stone all work in concert to provide warmth and texture even in such a large and contemporary space,” says Alcorn, noting that the firm has called this their “Contemporary With a Soul” project as the architecture, artwork and warm wood tones keep the home feeling clean yet interesting and inviting.
Striking archways add a touch of drama to the entrance of the pool house.
THE OUTCOME
Sums up Alcorn of the clients’ response, “They’re grateful to have the space to share with their family and friends, and love that the house gets so much use by many generations.”
Chicago-based design firm Hoiland Studios helped create the lighting plan for the pool house’s remarkable ceiling.
