Writers Theatre hosted its annual WordPlay Gala at the Four Seasons Chicago with the theme “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet!” Guests savored an elegant dinner (think grilled beef tenderloin and seared scallops with brown butter and lemon sauce) and enjoyed performances by a diverse array of Chicago artists, directed and choreographed by Writers Theatre alum Katie Spelman.
Over 200 of Chicago’s corporate and civic leaders attended the gala, which was co-chaired by Donna and David Tropp alongside Pam Conant. The evening honored Christopher S. and Sara Pfaff, who were presented with the 2024 Spirit of Writers Theatre Award for their steadfast commitment to the arts.
The gala raised $570,000 through live auctions and paddle raises, with VIP tickets to a Pearl Jam concert and a Montana getaway contributing nearly half of the total. The proceeds will support Writers Theatre’s performances and educational initiatives, benefiting approximately 10,000 students annually.
